EB-5 Direct Investment: What, Where and How
Want to immigrate to the United States of America? Have a substantial amount of money you want to invest? Want a visa? Well, let me tell you how to get an eb-5 visa. There are two EB-5 programs to choose from. There is the regular program with an investment of $1 million or $500,000 or the Regional Center Program. In this article, I will be writing mainly about the regular program but I will briefly mention the eb 5 visa regional centers.
What is direct investment on eb5? Well, say you are from a foreign country and you want to immigrate to the United States but you don’t necessarily want to live here full time. Well, this is the visa for you. Invest $1 million into a business here in the U.S., one you yourself are starting or one that was recently established. The $1 million must be in cash, equipment, property or any other physical, concrete asset. Once the investment has been made, a minimum of 10 jobs must be created for new employees who are either U.S. citizens or immigrants. The immigrants can not be the investor or the investor’s immediate family.
Now that the investor has met all of the above qualifications, permanent residence status is established and a “Green Card” is issued. The investor can now petition for his immediate family to have permanent residency also. It is all a win / win situation.
If the investor wishes to invest only $500,000, the investor must invest that money in a rural area or one that has a high unemployment rate. The investment will then create jobs and improve the economy.
As mentioned above, there is also the Regional Center Program. Eb-5 regional centers provides the same permanent residency as the regular program but the investor does not have to meet the requirement of starting his own business. The eb-5 regional centers are mainly located in rural or high unemployment areas. Many investors give their investment to the eb-5 regional centers and the money is pooled. The center then takes on all the responsibility of investing in a local business, creating the jobs and following the investment. Wow, it’s another win/win situation.
So the choice is yours. Always, get legal advise from a reputable firm that specializes in eb-5 visas before investing.
